Music Appreciation
This half-credit course is comprised of ten 90-minute tapes. The tapes are arranged in roughly chronological order and cover the periods from 1700 to the modern era. The musical styles range from serious orchestral music to popular music. Each musical selection has a graded reading, research, or writing assignment related to the composer, era, or composition. Each tape has a worksheet that is graded. The student must keep a listening journal and complete a final exam with both listening and written components. The student must provide his/her own Walkman-style cassette player to listen to the tapes.
Study Skills
This half-credit course covers the following chapters of study and life skills: First Steps, Time Management, Memory Techniques, Reading Techniques, Note Taking, Test Preparation and Test Taking, Diversity, Critical Thinking Skills, Relationships, Health, and Next Steps and Career Planning. Graded coursework includes 12 chapter assignments and tests and "Learning Styles Applications" where the student applies information from each chapter using a variety of learning styles.
